European Sustainable Wines (ESW) Point On Sale Promotion Japan

During the month of May, a point on sale promotion was held in different stores in Japan. The activity was solely focused on the quality wines produced in Vini d’Abruzzo production area.


TOKYO: Isetan Shinjuku B1F Wine Grocery shop “GRAND CAVE”

Period: 13th – 29th May 2022

Outline: Hold a special limited booth for Montepulciano in the shop

Summary: 8 kinds of Montepulciano wines are lined up. Especially on the weekend, designated staff stayed to give presentations to customers about Abruzzo state and Montepulciano variety. They also made suggestions for food paring, including Japanese traditional cuisine, which had great effect on the new attraction and possibility of Montepulciano wines.

Outline: Hold a special limited bar counter place called “Montepulciano Bar” in the shop

Summary: A designated Sommelier has stayed for 3 days thorough the opening time to serve by the glasses to compare 6 kinds of Montepulciano wines.  Using the official ESW leaflet and map to explain the difference of both wines from sea side and mountain side, those unique characteristics of Montepulciano d’Abruzzo DOC and Montepulciano d‘Abruzzo Colline Teramane DOCG.  Tasting wines with Sommelier’s explanation, customers could get much better understanding and interest, buy the “bottle” when they left there. 


OSAKA Wine shop Wassy’s – Head shop/ Nakanoshima shop/ WEB shop

Period: 9th – 31st May

Outline: Hold a special limited booth for Montepulciano in the shop

Summary: 8 kinds of Montepulciano wines are lined up. At the bar counter place in the shop, serving daily 2 or 3 kinds of wines by the glass. Wassy’s has 4 staffs who has Sommelier license and experience, to suggest wine character and food paring for customers. By their sincere service and explanation, customers could discover the new view for Montepulciano wines, which was used to considered as very casual wine, and found its interest point such as the great combination with fish plates. 


EHIME (Niihama city) Wine shop Vineria Lumicari

Period: 3rd – 31st May

Outline: Changed all the wine line ups and recommendation of the entrance space to “The Montepulciano wine fair”.

Summary: Using the leaflet and PR movie, sommelier staff of the shop served for 6 kinds of Montepulciano wines to the customers for tasting.  Vineria Lumicari has its annex restaurant, there chef had prepared some menu of Abruzzo traditional cuisine to highlight the fair. In fact, many customers of the restaurant bought the wines after their dinner.      In addition, on the 21st of May, they held the dinner night specified with Montepulciano, the invited 42 customers enjoyed the cuisine and wines, also much satisfied with the novelty goods about ESW.


About the European Sustainable Wines Campaign

This project was born from the joint work of the Italian consortia Consorzio Tutela Vini d’Abruzzo and Consorzio Barbera d’Asti e Vini del Monferrato, together with the Regulatory Board of the La Mancha Designation of Origin in Spain. It will last 3 years and will focus on the markets of China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Singapore and Vietnam.

The European Sustainable Wines campaign is financed by the Multi-Programme fromEuropean Research Executive Agency (REA)  and is under Regulation (EU) No 1144/2014 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 22 October 2014 on information provision and promotional measures for agricultural products on the internal market and in third countries
